Flex93 ULTRA is a flexible TPU (Thermoplastic PolyUrethane) filament developed by Volumic, with a Shore hardness of 93A. Its distinguishing feature is an extrusion behaviour optimised for high print speeds: it prints at up to 60 mm/s, on a par with standard PLA, whereas most flexible materials require a significant speed reduction to avoid flow defects.
Its Shore 93A hardness places it in the semi-rigid TPU category, suited to parts requiring a combination of flexibility, tear resistance, and fatigue strength: seals, shock absorbers, bellows, ergonomic prototypes, protective covers, technical soles. Multiple colours are available in the range.
Printing behaviour
Flex93 ULTRA prints at a recommended nozzle temperature of 235 °C on a heated build plate at 45 °C, with a brass or copper nozzle. Its strong build plate adhesion allows printing directly on a clean or lacquered build plate (lacquer such as 3DLac) without complex preparation, and its processing difficulty is rated "easy" by the manufacturer, making it an accessible consumable even for operators not specialised in flexible materials.
Storage and documentation
TPU is hygroscopic: store the spool in a dry environment, in a resealable bag with desiccant, to preserve extrusion properties after opening. Technical data sheet and safety data sheet (MSDS / SDS) available from the distributor for integration into HSE procedures and workshop documentation.
