Mechanical and thermal properties

RG 35 has a tensile modulus of 2600 MPa, a tensile strength of 80 MPa and an elongation at break of 6 %, combined with a flexural modulus of 2400 MPa and a flexural strength of 110 MPa. Its notched Izod impact strength reaches 23 J/m at 23 °C (11 J/m at -30 °C) and its notched Charpy impact strength 0.6 kJ/m², values consistent with rigid behaviour.

Its heat deflection temperature reaches 83 °C at 0.45 MPa and 64 °C at 1.82 MPa, with a glass transition temperature of 119 °C (dynamic mechanical analysis). Rated HB for fire behaviour (UL 94, 1.5 mm), it performs well in the glow-wire test (GWIT 650 °C, GWFI 625 °C) and has a dielectric strength of 37 kV/mm.

Chemical resistance, UV, post-processing and sterilisation

Specimens immersed for 30 minutes and then 7 days in various industrial fluids showed good overall stability, with the exception of acetone, which strongly reduces the modulus and tensile strength after 7 days. After 1000 hours of long-term UV exposure (ISO 4892-2, method A), the tensile modulus and tensile strength decrease moderately (from 2870 to 2510 MPa and from 70 to 50 MPa), while the elongation at break drops sharply (from 10 to 2 %), with limited yellowing.

Five post-processing methods (sanding, fine sandblasting, coarse sandblasting, pre-polishing, high-gloss polishing) were tested after full UV post-curing: the mechanical properties remain broadly stable, with the exception of coarse sandblasting, which significantly reduces the elongation at break. Four sterilisation methods were tested (electron beam 36-39 kGy, ethylene oxide, gamma 37-37.5 kGy, steam): gamma sterilisation clearly degrades the elongation at break and causes marked yellowing, while steam sterilisation reduces the elongation more moderately.
