Prusament PETG

Prusament PETG is a 3D filament manufactured in-house by Prusa Research, the Czech 3D printer manufacturer that operates its own extrusion line. The Prusament brand is positioned in the professional and prosumer segment, with control of the chain from polymer granule to spooling. Each spool undergoes individual inspection (diameter, chromatic consistency, mechanical properties) and its manufacturing parameters are viewable online via a unique spool identifier. The stated diameter tolerance is ±0.02 mm, versus 0.05 mm for the usual market standard.

PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) is a thermoplastic valued for its toughness and ductility, superior to PLA whilst remaining simpler to print than ABS. It offers good interlayer adhesion, which suits it to functional parts subject to moderate mechanical stress: brackets, fixings, flanges, technical enclosures. The material's low thermal expansion limits warping, even on large parts printed without an enclosed chamber. PETG also provides acceptable sealing for both indoor and outdoor applications.

For printing, FFF/FDM technology should be configured at 250 °C nozzle temperature and 70 to 90 °C on the heated build plate. A textured or satin steel sheet is recommended. Before each print, verify the cleanliness of the build plate surface. As PETG is hygroscopic, store the spool in an airtight container with desiccant after opening; in the event of moisture absorption (bubbles during extrusion, surface quality degradation), dry according to the manufacturer's procedure. Enable retraction to limit stringing, which is the main extrusion defect of this material.

Recommended for the production of functional parts, workshop jigs, watertight prototypes, mechanical supports, parts intended for outdoor use, and large parts sensitive to warping. Not recommended for parts requiring a high level of fine detail (prefer PLA), for long bridges without support (poor bridging characteristics), for food-contact applications without additional certification, or for parts subject to high continuous-service temperatures.
