The STREAM glass-ceramic build plate is the replacement print surface dedicated to Volumic Stream 30 first and second-generation FDM printers (MK1 and MK2), in Pro and Dual configurations. Made from glass-ceramic, it combines controlled flatness, a low thermal expansion coefficient, and good mechanical heat resistance — three characteristics sought in the adhesion zone of an FDM printer in serial production.
Compared to the Stream 20 version, this build plate covers a larger useful surface, suited to the increased print volumes of the Stream 30. The glass-ceramic retains its reference geometry (levelling homogeneity, first-layer flatness) after numerous thermal cycles, a necessary condition for the reproducibility of a prototyping or small industrial batch production line.
Implementation
The build plate mounts on the machine's original heated carriage, following the procedure documented by Volumic in its online technical support. Once in place, it accepts FDM filaments compatible with direct deposition on glass-ceramic: an adhesive supplement such as 3DLac lacquer may be applied to adjust adhesion depending on the material and part geometry. Routine maintenance is carried out with IPA on a cold plate, to degrease the surface between prints and restore first-layer adhesion.
