The MK3/SC2 magnetic glass-ceramic build plate is the replacement print surface for Volumic Stream 30 PRO MK3 and Stream 30 SC2 FDM printers. It combines a glass-ceramic plate with a magnetic fixing system, simplifying build plate installation and removal during serial production operations.
The glass-ceramic provides controlled flatness, a low thermal expansion coefficient, and good mechanical resistance to thermal cycling, ensuring levelling homogeneity and consistent first layers over time. The magnetic fixing system enables rapid surface changeover (for example between a production-dedicated plate and a prototyping-dedicated plate), without tools.
Implementation
The build plate is positioned directly on the machine's magnetic heated carriage, following the procedure documented by Volumic in its online technical support. Once in place, it accepts FDM filaments compatible with direct deposition on glass-ceramic: an adhesive supplement such as 3DLac lacquer may be applied to adjust adhesion depending on the material and part geometry. Routine maintenance is carried out with IPA on a cold plate, to degrease the surface between prints and restore first-layer adhesion.
