The LM8UU Linear Bearing is a replacement linear ball bearing, a standard widely used by Prusa Research across all its Original Prusa FDM printers in the MK, MINI, and CORE One series. Its function is to guide a Ø8 mm smooth rod in translation on one of the machine's axes, ensuring smooth movement without lateral play and a low friction coefficient, a requirement for dimensional print accuracy.
The bearing is factory-lubricated: no additional greasing is required before installation, simplifying maintenance in workshop environments. Its standardised dimensions (length 24 mm, outer diameter 15 mm, inner diameter 8 mm) make it an interchangeable LM8UU-format replacement part, suitable to keep in stock in workshops operating a multi-machine fleet of these generations.
Implementation
Replacement is carried out when the bearing shows play, stiffness during movement, abnormal noise, or in the event of visible dimensional irregularities on printed parts (axis artefacts, irregular vertical surfaces). The operation is performed with the printer switched off, following the procedure documented on the Prusa knowledge base (help.prusa3d.com), by selecting the relevant printer model and following the repair manual. After reassembly, a manual axis-by-axis movement test must confirm the absence of stiffness, then a test print validates dimensional quality.
