The v2 particulate filter is a mechanical filtration cartridge for the enclosures of Volumic FDM 3D printers. Manufactured by 3M, a recognised industry reference for respiratory protection, it captures solid particles, fine dust, and aerosols emitted inside the closed enclosure during FDM printing.
It mounts in the dedicated housing on the enclosure and complements the action of the ABEK chemical filter by providing upstream mechanical capture, thereby extending the service life of the chemical cartridge in intensive workshop use.
Role and complementarity with the ABEK filter
Particulate filtration is a separate stage from gas filtration: it treats suspended solid compounds (extrusion residues, polymer microparticles, workshop dust), while the ABEK cartridge captures gases and vapours.
Both filters work in series within the same enclosure. Regular replacement of the particulate filter reduces the load on the chemical filter and maintains the overall filtration quality of the system.
Service life and replacement
The filter service life is between 300 and 400 hours of printing, depending on the type of materials used, production volume, and room ventilation. Tracking cumulative print hours facilitates cartridge replacement planning in serial production or intensive prototyping environments.
