The ABEK v2 filter is a filtration cartridge developed for the closed enclosures of Volumic 3D printers. Manufactured by 3M, a recognised industry reference for respiratory protection, it installs directly into the dedicated slot in the enclosure and captures the volatile compounds emitted during extrusion of technical filaments such as ABS, ASA, nylon, or polycarbonate.
This filtration system maintains a working environment in compliance with the requirements of a prototyping workshop, design office, or serial production zone, by limiting the spread of printing fumes within the premises.
Filtration function
The ABEK designation corresponds to a standardised combination of four filtration families: A for organic gases and vapours with a boiling point above 65 °C, B for inorganic gases and vapours, E for acid vapours, and K for ammonia and its derivatives.
This versatility covers the majority of emissions generated by FDM printing of technical polymers and allows a single cartridge to be used for most workshop consumables, without requiring a change of medium depending on the material being printed.
Installation and service life
The filter mounts directly onto the designated housing of the compatible Volumic enclosure, with no special tools required. Its service life is estimated at approximately 1,000 hours of printing under normal operating conditions.
Replacement should be planned based on production volume, the type of filaments used, and room ventilation levels. Tracking cumulative print hours facilitates cartridge replacement planning in production environments.
