Carbonio CF15 is a polyamide filament reinforced with long carbon fibres, not carbon powder. This formulation gives it high stiffness and mechanical strength, with low shrinkage on cooling.
Its moisture uptake is markedly lower than that of common nylons, which reduces the drying usually required for this family of materials before printing.
Printing behaviour
Its low water absorption (below 0.3% per ISO 62) reduces defects linked to residual moisture, a sensitive point on standard polyamides. Since carbon fibres are abrasive, a hardened steel nozzle (Widia type) or a wear-resistant surface is recommended; a PTFE-coated nozzle should be avoided.
The filament can remain in the nozzle for up to 20 minutes without extruding. Beyond that, if the temperature drops below 210 °C, it is best to switch off the heater rather than resume printing directly.
Drying and processing
Pre-drying for 2 hours at 70 °C is recommended for best results, extended for spools over 1 kg. Extrusion is set between 230 and 250 °C, on a heated bed between 90 and 110 °C.
