Filaflex Foamy is a flexible TPU loaded with a foaming agent that activates with the heat of the nozzle. Its initial hardness, Shore 82A, can drop to 60A depending on the settings: the lower the flow and the higher the temperature, the more the part expands, lightens and softens.
At 245-250 °C with a flow of 60 to 70 %, Recreus states an expansion of 1.4 to 1.6 times the original volume, i.e. 30 to 40 % more parts per spool. The colour becomes lighter as foaming increases. Applications cited by the manufacturer: soles and footwear, bicycle grips and saddles, cushioning and sound absorption elements.
Foaming control
At 100 % flow, the extruded line exceeds the nozzle diameter by about 37.5 %. Recreus starts from 75 % flow, 248 °C and 3.5 mm³/s with a 0.4 mm nozzle, then recommends lowering the flow in 5 % steps down to 60 % for further weight reduction. Stringing is more pronounced than with a standard TPU: retraction of 2.5 to 5 mm at 65 mm/s, 0.2 mm Z-hop, travel moves at the machine's maximum speed.
