DARK PA11 is a polyamide 11-based composite powder formulated by Fabulous for powder bed laser sintering systems (SLS, LS), on both industrial equipment and compact desktop machines. The bulk black colouring, achieved by incorporating carbon black, eliminates any post-processing dyeing step and guarantees consistent visual uniformity of produced parts.
The grade is positioned as an alternative to PA12 with superior elasticity: elongation at break reaches 40 % in the XY plane and Charpy impact resistance shows no break in dry or 24 h conditioned conditions.
Processing
The melting range is 196–204 °C by DSC. Process temperature varies by machine type: approximately 187 °C (±2) on industrial SLS and 194 °C (±2) on desktop SLS, with the black colouring shifting the thermal sensor readings.
Particle size distribution is centred on a D50 of 50 µm (D10: 30 µm, D90: 90 µm), with a tapped bulk density of 0.55 g/cm³ and a sintered part density close to 1 g/cm³. A refresh rate of 50 % is recommended, and wall airtightness is achieved from 1.6 mm thickness.
Applications and chemical resistance
DARK PA11 is intended for functional parts for automotive and aeronautical applications, large parts such as fuel or oil tanks, and detailed parts produced on desktop SLS. The PA11 matrix offers good resistance to alkaline media, hydrocarbons, oils, fuels and common organic solvents, but remains sensitive to acids. The material is rated as an electrical insulator to IEC 93.
