BLUECARE PA11 is a polyamide 11-based composite powder formulated by Fabulous for powder bed laser sintering systems (SLS, LS). Its bulk blue colouring, known as "Safety Blue", facilitates the optical detection of accidental fragments on packaging or food production lines.
The formulation incorporates bio-based components and retains the high mechanical properties expected of sintered PA11, with a Young's modulus of 1800 MPa and a tensile strength of 53 MPa in the XY plane.
Processing
The melting range is between 190 and 202 °C by DSC, with a typical process temperature of approximately 186 °C (±2) depending on the machine and measurement method used. Particle size distribution is centred on a D50 of 50 µm (D10: 35 µm, D90: 80 µm), with a tapped bulk density of approximately 0.55 g/cm³ and a sintered part density close to 1.02 g/cm³.
A refresh rate of 50 % is recommended between production cycles. Wall airtightness is achieved from 2 mm thickness. In post-processing, blasting gives a roughness Ra of 12 ±4 µm, reduced to 6 ±2 µm after finishing.
Compliance and applications
BLUECARE PA11 meets European Regulation No. 10/2011 and FDA CFR 21 for food contact, and complies with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Its PA11 matrix offers good resistance to alkaline media, hydrocarbons, oils, fuels and common organic solvents, but remains sensitive to acids. Produced parts are aimed at the food, pharmaceutical and medical sectors, packaging and safety equipment, where visual traceability of accidental fragments on the line is required.
