Printing behaviour
TPU 85A Ultrafuse prints between 200 and 220 °C on a glass build plate maintained at 40 °C. Its flexibility requires particular attention to the filament drive system: a direct drive extruder is generally preferred over a Bowden system to limit filament buckling during extrusion.
Drying is not mandatory, but BASF recommends a 2 to 8-hour pass at 70 °C in a hot-air dryer to limit stringing, or 5 hours at 80 °C in a vacuum oven to achieve optimal mechanical properties.
Applications and mechanical properties
An industrially proven formulation, this TPU offers resistance to hydrolysis, wear, abrasion, sliding, and microbiological attack, as well as flexibility retained at low temperature.
Its damping properties and tensile strength make it a suitable consumable for flexible parts subject to repeated stress: seals, shock absorbers, technical soles, protective covers, and functional prototypes for the automotive, sports and leisure, agriculture, construction, and industrial manufacturing sectors.
