Ultracur3D® ST 80 is a photopolymer resin developed by BASF Forward AM, positioned by the manufacturer as a versatile resin focused on cost-per-part efficiency. Its transparent formulation delivers a tensile modulus of 1500 MPa and a flexural modulus of 1700 MPa, with a Shore D hardness of 80.

Viscosity drops from 400 mPa·s at 30 °C to 120 mPa·s at 50 °C, facilitating handling in the vat. Liquid resin density is 1.08 g/cm³ and cured part density reaches 1.12 g/cm³.

Mechanical behaviour

ST 80 resin retains ductile behaviour with an elongation at break of 20 % and a tensile strength of 35 MPa, complemented by a flexural strength of 60 MPa. Izod impact tests give 24 J/m on a notched specimen at 23 °C and 720 J/m on an unnotched specimen, while notched Charpy impact comes in at 1.4 kJ/m². Low-temperature behaviour is documented with a notched Izod of 14 J/m at -30 °C.

Thermal stability and applications

Heat deflection temperature (HDT) is 46 °C at 0.45 MPa and 42 °C at 1.82 MPa, which limits use of parts to applications without prolonged heat exposure. Water absorption over 24 hours remains limited to 0.50 %. The resin is positioned for prototyping, functional parts not subject to thermal constraints, and production runs where material cost control is a criterion. ISO 10993 biocompatibility data are available on request from the manufacturer.

About BASF

Origine : Allemagne
