Mechanical and thermal properties
ST 80 has a tensile modulus of 1500 MPa, a tensile strength of 35 MPa and an elongation at break of 20 %, combined with a flexural modulus of 1700 MPa and a flexural strength of 60 MPa. Its notched Izod impact strength reaches 24 J/m at 23 °C (14 J/m at -30 °C) and its notched Charpy impact strength 1.4 kJ/m².
Its heat deflection temperature reaches 46 °C at 0.45 MPa and 42 °C at 1.82 MPa. After 3000 hours of long-term UV exposure (ISO 4892-2, method A), the mechanical properties remain broadly stable (tensile modulus from 1797 to 1774 MPa, tensile strength from 45 to 44 MPa, elongation from 11 to 10 %), with visible yellowing of the colour beyond 600 hours.
Chemical resistance, sterilisation and biocompatibility
Specimens immersed for 30 minutes and then 7 days in various industrial fluids (acetone, brake fluid, coolant, engine oil, hydraulic oil, multi-purpose grease, transmission oil) showed limited weight change and broadly retained mechanical properties, with the exception of coolant, which affects the modulus more markedly after 7 days of immersion.
Ethylene oxide and steam sterilisation tests were carried out on printed parts: after EtO sterilisation, the mechanical properties remain stable; after steam sterilisation, a more marked decrease is observed (around 80-85 % of the initial values). Biocompatibility tests (cytotoxicity, in vitro and human skin irritation, in vitro and in vivo sensitisation) were passed on printed samples; the tested sample showed no skin sensitising properties under the conditions of the study, with polar extraction in a 30 % ethanol solution.
