Mechanical and thermal properties
ST 45 M has a tensile modulus of 2300 MPa, a tensile strength of 58 MPa and an elongation at break of 20 %, combined with a flexural modulus of 2200 MPa and a flexural strength of 100 MPa. Its notched Izod impact strength reaches 19 J/m and its notched Charpy impact strength 2.7 kJ/m².
Its heat deflection temperature reaches 67 °C at 0.45 MPa and 57 °C at 1.82 MPa, with a glass transition temperature of 97 °C (dynamic mechanical analysis). Rated HB for fire behaviour (UL 94, 1.5 mm), it has a water absorption above 5 % over 24 hours.
Sterilisation and biocompatibility
A steam sterilisation test (4 vacuum pulses, 134 °C, 210 kPa, 4 minutes holding time, 20 minutes drying) was carried out on printed parts; the mechanical properties (modulus, tensile strength, elongation at break) remain broadly comparable after sterilisation, with slight yellowing of the colour.
A cytotoxicity test (neutral red, EN ISO 10993-5:2009) was passed on printed samples. The manufacturer states that this validation does not constitute a guarantee of suitability for medical or pharmaceutical use: it is up to the manufacturer of the final device to determine whether the printed part is suitable for its application.
