Ultracur3D® ST 1400 is a urethane photopolymer resin developed by BASF Forward AM in its "Tough" range. The formulation is positioned by the manufacturer as a compromise between rigid and flexible resins: high ductility, toughness and durability oriented towards parts subject to impacts or repeated deformation.

Elongation at break reaches 43 % and notched Izod impact at 23 °C comes out at 43 J/m, with a tensile modulus of 1900 MPa and a Shore D hardness of 78. The resin is available in several colours.

Mechanical behaviour

Tensile strength is 45 MPa, complemented by a flexural strength of 80 MPa (modulus 1540 MPa). Impact tests underline the ductile character of the material, with an unnotched Izod at 23 °C of 930 J/m and a notched Charpy of 4.6 kJ/m². Water absorption over 24 hours remains contained at 0.33 %, contributing to dimensional stability of parts in storage.

Thermal stability and applications

Heat deflection temperature (HDT) is 57 °C at 0.45 MPa and 48.7 °C at 1.82 MPa, placing the material outside thermally constrained applications. The resin is intended for wearable devices, prosthetic devices and medical accessories, diagnostic equipment, as well as industrial housings, fixtures and supports. ISO 10993 biocompatibility data are available on request from the manufacturer.

About BASF

Origine : Allemagne
