Mechanical and thermal properties
ST 1400 has a tensile modulus of 1900 MPa, a tensile strength of 45 MPa and an elongation at break of 43 %. Its notched (43 J/m) and unnotched (930 J/m) Izod impact strengths, as well as its notched Charpy impact strength (4.6 kJ/m²), reflect good resistance to impact and crack propagation.
Its heat deflection temperature reaches 57 °C at 0.45 MPa and 48 °C at 1.82 MPa, with a glass transition temperature of 75 °C (dynamic mechanical analysis).
UV ageing, sterilisation and biocompatibility
After 1000 hours of long-term UV exposure (ISO 4892-2, method A), the tensile modulus decreases slightly (from 1880 to 1650 MPa), the tensile strength drops from 45 to 28 MPa and the elongation at break falls sharply from 43 to 16 %, with moderate yellowing but a broadly stable colour.
A steam sterilisation test shows a decrease in mechanical properties after treatment (modulus, tensile strength and elongation at around 75-90 % of the initial values). Biocompatibility tests (neutral red and MTT cytotoxicity, human skin irritation, in vitro sensitisation) were passed on printed samples.
