UNIVERSAL ULTRA is a composite filament based on polylactic acid compound (PLC – Polylactic Acid Compound) developed by Volumic, positioned as a versatile material covering most workshop requirements in a single consumable. It combines the ease of processing of traditional PLA with a significantly higher level of mechanical and thermal performance: sustained mechanical strength, high rigidity, thermal resistance up to 160 °C peak and 115 °C continuous.
The material is also FDA-approved for food contact (to be validated according to the intended application) and remains biodegradable, two advantages directly exploitable in container prototyping, laboratory equipment, and short-life functional parts. Multiple colours are available in the range.
Printing behaviour
UNIVERSAL ULTRA prints at a recommended nozzle temperature of 225 °C on a heated build plate at 60 °C, and is compatible with all nozzle materials (brass, copper/nickel, steel). Its build plate adhesion is rated ultra-strong, to be used on a very lightly lacquered build plate to preserve ease of removal at the end of printing. The processing difficulty is rated "very easy" by the manufacturer, making it a suitable consumable even for beginner operators or multi-machine production lines requiring a robust consumable without complex parameter configuration.
Storage and documentation
Store the spool in a dry environment, in a resealable bag with desiccant after opening, to preserve extrusion properties. Technical data sheet and safety data sheet (MSDS / SDS) available from the distributor for integration into HSE procedures and workshop documentation.
