Printing behaviour
PLA SILK Ultra prints at 210 °C on a lacquered build plate heated to 50 °C, without an enclosed chamber. Rated "easy" in terms of difficulty, it accepts any nozzle type and exhibits strong adhesion on lacquered build plates, simplifying first-layer initiation and limiting warping defects.
Unlike the standard PLA Ultra range, the SILK formulation does not support post-treatment by annealing: parts retain the mechanical properties of a standard PLA. For parts requiring high thermal resistance, a recurable Ultra reference from the range should be preferred.
Applications and surface finish
The SILK formulation produces a bright metallic effect with anisotropic highlights, particularly suited to decorative parts, architectural models, communication prototypes, commercial presentations, design objects, and interior furnishing elements. The surface finish, described as excellent by the manufacturer, partially masks layer lines when lighting plays on the orientation of layers, and remains consistent across the entire spool for large-format prints.
