The STREAM glass-ceramic build plate is the replacement print surface for Volumic Stream first and second-generation FDM printers (MK1 and MK2), in Pro and Dual configurations. Made from glass-ceramic, it combines high flatness, low thermal expansion coefficient, and mechanical heat resistance — three characteristics sought in the adhesion zone of an industrial FDM printer.
Glass-ceramic provides a surface that remains stable over time: it retains its reference geometry (levelling homogeneity, first-layer flatness) even after numerous thermal cycles, a necessary condition for reproducibility in serial production.
Implementation
The build plate mounts on the machine's original heated carriage, following the procedure documented by Volumic in its online technical support. Once in place, it accepts FDM filaments compatible with direct deposition on glass-ceramic: an adhesive supplement such as 3DLac lacquer may be applied to adjust adhesion depending on the material being printed. Routine maintenance is carried out with IPA on a cold plate, to degrease the surface between prints and restore first-layer adhesion.
