The EXO42 textured magnetic PEI build plate is a flexible print surface for the Volumic EXO42 3D printer and other Volumic models with a magnetic plate system. It consists of a spring steel sheet coated on both sides with a textured PEI (ULTEM) finish.
The dual coating makes the plate reversible: the sheet can be flipped over when one side wears out, or to have a second print surface immediately available without full reinstallation.
Adhesion and part release
The textured PEI coating provides strong grip for the main FDM filaments while facilitating part release once the plate has cooled.
Manual flexion of the steel sheet is generally sufficient to release the part, without tools or risk of surface damage. The texture imprints its own micro-structure on the first layer, giving a characteristic matt finish on the face in contact with the plate.
Installation and maintenance
The plate is positioned directly on the machine's magnetic system, with no screwing or mechanical fixing required. Depending on the printer's initial configuration, the additional thickness of the sheet may require replacing the Z end-stop blades with shorter models.
Maintenance is limited to regular cleaning with isopropyl alcohol between prints, to preserve the PEI adhesion properties over time.
