Ultracur3D® ST 45 is a reactive urethane photopolymer resin developed by BASF Forward AM in its "Tough" range. The formulation combines high mechanical strength, long-term toughness and impact resistance for functional parts ranging from prototyping to detailed production components.
The resin is available in several colour variants. Processing speed and the surface finish obtained are highlighted by the manufacturer as differentiating factors compared with standard market resins.
Mechanical behaviour
Tensile modulus reaches 2300 MPa and tensile strength 60 MPa, with an elongation at break of 25 %. Flexural strength is 110 MPa (modulus 2400 MPa) and Shore D hardness is 80. Notched Izod impact tests give 30 J/m at 23 °C and 20 J/m at -30 °C, demonstrating retained behaviour at low temperature. Unnotched Izod strength at 23 °C is 509 J/m and notched Charpy comes in at 1.3 kJ/m².
Thermal stability and applications
Heat deflection temperature (HDT) is 73 °C at 0.45 MPa and 61 °C at 1.82 MPa, which broadens the thermal service range compared with standard resins. UL 94 fire rating at 1.5 mm is HB. The resin is intended for prototyping, housings, highly detailed or textured parts, and custom tooling and gadgets. ISO 10993 biocompatibility and water absorption data are available on request from the manufacturer.
