The Gen3 Performance Printhead Ceramic Heat Break is a replacement part dedicated to Volumic extrusion printheads in the Performance (Gen3) version, fitted on the FDM printers of the SH, EXO, and Stream series. Its function is to establish the thermal break between the heater block and the cooling body — a critical point for stabilising the filament melt zone and preventing heat creep into the cold side of the hotend.
This version combines a copper body, chosen for its high thermal conductivity, and a ceramic internal duct. The ceramic provides enhanced hardness of the filament channel and improved cooling, particularly sought after when printing highly abrasive or heavily filled materials.
Applications and implementation
This part is particularly suited to demanding usage profiles: intensive printing of fibre-filled filaments (carbon, glass), metal composites, and heavily filled technical polymers. The ceramic duct limits wear of the extrusion channel which, on a standard heat break, degrades over time and leads to flow defects. Installation follows the procedure documented by Volumic in its online technical support, with the machine switched off and the printhead cooled; an extrusion test and E-step calibration are required after reassembly to validate consistent flow.
