Prusament PLA Refill 900g is a premium filament manufactured in-house by Prusa Research, packaged in a refill format without flanges or core. The format is designed to be installed on a previously emptied Prusament spool and is part of the manufacturer's eco-design approach by reducing the amount of packaging material per kilogram of filament delivered.
The entire manufacturing process is controlled in-house, with a controlled dimensional tolerance of ±0.02 mm for solid colours (±0.03 mm for blends), guaranteeing consistent extrusion in production. Each refill is NFC-compatible for automatic recognition by equipped printers, and the NFC refill version is not backwards-compatible with the 1 kg cardboard-core refills of the previous generation.
Printing behaviour
Prusament PLA prints at 215 °C at the nozzle, on a heated build plate at 50–60 °C. Its low thermal expansion allows large parts to be printed without significant warping, and its low melting temperature also makes it suited to small detailed parts. The material does not require an enclosed chamber and accepts smooth PEI, textured or satin steel sheets.
Applications and limitations
PLA remains the easiest material to print, suited to rapid prototyping, concept models, detailed figurines and presentation parts. It has low heat resistance and brittle failure behaviour, which limits its use in functional parts exposed to high temperatures or subject to significant mechanical stress. For these applications, opt for a PETG, ABS or technical material. Each spool is traceable via a QR code giving access to production parameters online at prusament.com. The range is available in several colours.
