Overview

Prusament PLA is a filament manufactured in-house by Prusa Research at its factories in the Czech Republic and Delaware. It is available in a wide palette of colours, including solid matt to satin shades, multi-pigment blends, and glitter-effect variants. Each spool is inspected to meet a dimensional tolerance of ±0.02 mm, with continuous measurement of diameter and ovality along the entire length. Actual manufacturing data (diameter readings, ovality, weight) are recorded and provided per batch, enabling full spool traceability. Colour consistency is guaranteed by a documented spectroscopic recipe and per-batch inspection before despatch.

Printing behaviour

Prusament PLA extrudes at 215 °C on a heated build plate between 50 and 60 °C, without the need for an enclosed chamber. Its limited shrinkage allows the printing of large or multi-part assemblies without significant deformation, as well as the reproduction of fine geometries, bridges, and overhangs thanks to low-temperature melting combined with rapid cooling. For parts subject to mechanical stress or exposed to elevated temperatures, PETG, ASA, or a PC Blend remains preferable. The material is hard and difficult to sand.

Spool and NFC identification

Since October 2025, Prusament is delivered on a redesigned spool incorporating a rewritable NFC tag to the open OpenPrintTag standard. This tag contains essential material information and can be read by the Prusa mobile app in offline mode, without dependency on a cloud service. The spool is produced under controlled tension winding and undergoes a final inspection before despatch.
