Ultrafuse PLA is a polylactic acid (PLA) filament developed by BASF Forward AM, the additive manufacturing division of the BASF group. Its formulation is optimised to deliver smooth extrusion, proven interlayer cohesion and controlled dimensional stability — properties directly applicable to the production of visual prototypes, presentation parts, models and decorative applications where surface regularity is expected.

Several colours (white, pearl white, grey, black, red, blue, light blue, green, pink, gold, bronze, silver) and several packaging formats are available in the Ultrafuse PLA range, covering both occasional workshop needs and short-run production requirements.

Printing behaviour

The filament prints on a 1.75 mm FDM printer without the need for an enclosed chamber. PLA exhibits virtually no shrinkage and good interlayer adhesion, making it an accessible consumable even for operators without specialist knowledge of technical materials. Like all PLA, it is not recommended for parts exposed to above 55 °C or subject to significant mechanical stress: in those cases, opt for a PETG, ABS or filled PA from the range.

Storage and documents

Store the spool in a dry environment, in a resealable bag with desiccant after opening, to preserve extrusion properties. BASF Ultrafuse PLA technical data sheet (TDS) and safety data sheet (MSDS) available from the distributor, for integration into HSE procedures and workshop documentation.
