Ultrafuse PET CF15 is a premium technical filament developed by BASF Forward AM, the additive manufacturing division of the BASF Group. It combines a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) matrix with 15% carbon fibre reinforcement, making it an industrial consumable designed for functional parts under high mechanical and thermal stress.
Compared to other carbon fibre-filled composites, its formulation is optimised for ease of processing and dimensional stability: very low moisture absorption, low abrasiveness, direct printing possible on glass or PEI sheet, high surface quality. PET CF15 is compatible with HIPS as a detachable support material and BVOH as a water-soluble support, making it usable on dual-extruder machines for complex geometries.
Printing behaviour
The filament prints at a nozzle temperature of 250–270 °C on a heated build plate between 65 and 85 °C, with a recommended speed range of 30–80 mm/s. The presence of fibres requires a ruby or hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.6 mm to ensure regular flow without blockage. Before printing, drying the filament at 65 °C in a hot-air dryer or vacuum oven for 4–16 hours is recommended to restore the extrusion properties of an opened spool.
Storage and documentation
PET CF15 exhibits very low native moisture absorption, making it a particularly suitable material for humid operating environments. Nevertheless, store the spool in a dry environment, in a resealable bag with a desiccant after opening. BASF technical data sheet (Ultrafuse PET CF15 TDS) and safety data sheet (MSDS) available from the distributor, for integration into HSE procedures and the workshop risk register.
